Important news regarding BCT

For the past 40 years, Boone County Transportation Services, Inc. has enjoyed the privilege of meeting the goals set forth in our mission statement: To provide the general public, people with disabilities and senior citizens access to affordable, reliable and efficient transportation that effectively meets their needs and will assist them in remaining in their homes and community.

Every member of our organization has worked with diligence and passion daily to ensure that our friends, family and neighbors received the transportation services they requested. We provided transportation to schools, medical and dental facilities, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, congregate meal sites, daycare centers, places of employment and the many other entities in Boone County which helped enrich lives, maintain health and remain social and a vital part of the community. Our clients range in age from 4 to 100+ years young.

For many years, BCT has been the contracted provider for the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) in Boone County. On June 30, 2017 our contract with HIRTA expires, and transportation services in Boone County will transition to HIRTA who will begin providing direct transportation services on July 1, 2017.

Statement from HIRTA:

The HIRTA Public Transit Board and staff, look forward to a smooth transition, as we move from contracting with Boone County Transportation to HIRTA providing direct transit services.

As the state designated regional Public Transit system, HIRTA is dedicated to providing transit services which benefit and enhance the Boone County community. With change, there are bound to be some challenges, however, I know both of our agencies have dedicated staff ready and able to assist you with any concerns and questions you may have. Our Executive Director, Julia Castillo, has the experience and knowledge to assist in making the transition as seamless as possible. Julia states In the coming weeks, HIRTA will be hosting several community meetings in Boone, and we will also be sending out Welcome Packets which will have more detailed information, including phone and email contact(s) for those who wish to contact us with questions.

We have contracted with Boone County Transportation for many years, and we appreciate the service they have provided during those years. Even though this will be a big change for many people, it is great to be able to work together to ensure the residents and community will continue to receive the transit service they deserve.

~ Dean Yordi, HIRTA Board Chair

Over the next 2 months, BCT will work closely with HIRTA to assist in making the transition as smooth as possible, with little or no interruption in services.

There will be some changes beginning July 1, 2017. Clients who wish to request transportation for July 1, 2017 and thereafter will need to contact HIRTA directly to set up their trips. HIRTA may be contacted at 1-877-686-0029.

You may contact us with any questions. We welcome your questions and concerns as we want to make this transition as smooth as possible for the residents of Boone County.
